No Registration needed, please read of the information below to arrive prepare to add to the count!

Great for kids ages 12 and up.

We need your help! Join us for the Nature Museum’s first ever bioblitz! So, what is a bioblitz? It is a coordinated communal effort to observe and document as many species in a defined area as possible within a short period of time. Given continued restoration and conservation efforts in the Chapman Meadow, having more data on species during the peak summer will be important data to help the museum discover existing biodiversity now and in the future. Additionally, we’ll be submitting our findings via iNaturalist to further contribute citizen science data to local, regional, national, and global biodiversity repositories.

Whether you’re a casual observer of the world around you or an expert scientist, join us to discover and learn together. No technology required. We’ll have have a variety of ID guides, but staff will be able to show you the basics of iNaturalist using your smartphone or tablet!

What is iNaturalist?

iNaturalist is a lot of different things, but at its core, iNaturalist is an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information to help each other learn about nature. It's also a crowdsourced species identification system and an organism occurrence recording tool. You can use it to record your own observations, get help with identifications, collaborate with others to collect this kind of information for a common purpose, or access the observational data collected by iNaturalist users.

Contribute to Science!

Every observation can contribute to biodiversity science, from the rarest butterfly to the most common backyard weed. We share your findings with scientific data repositories like the Global Biodiversity Information Facility to help scientists find and use your data. All you have to do is observe.
