Botany Hike Series with Tom Groves
Final Session: Saturday 08/17
9-12 at the Molly Beattie State Park in Grafton
This is your opportunity to walk through the forest with a botanical expert — bring your questions and get ready to have your awareness of our native plant life deepened. In these hands-on, in-field learning experiences, participants will learn how to identify rare, native, and invasive plants in the wild. Invasive plant control options in sensitive wetland habitat, and inventory the flora of these areas will also be highlighted and discussed. In addition to increasing your knowledge and identification skills, participants will observe recent invasive plant control treatments in the Molly Bettie State Park and neighboring beaver wetland/meadow habitats.
Over the series of three outings across the growing season, a botanical inventory will be compiled. With each outing happening at different points in the growing season, inventorying will help participants better understand the landscape and provide opportunities to discover new occurrences of rare, threatened and endangered plant species.
Join for one, two, or all three hikes to explore our bio-region with a local botanical expert. Hikes are $20 and registration is required.
Note: We will be exploring surrounding natural areas as part of this program. Areas we explore may have uneven/unlevel terrain, variable ground conditions, and require moderate hiking! Unless there is hazardous weather, this program will occur rain or shine. Please come with proper footwear, clothing, water, bug & sun protection, and snacks to keep you safe and comfortable as we will be away from facilities for the entirety of the program.
