Wild Walkers Winter Camp for ages 10-14

Campers will spend the day exploring the outdoors in the beautiful Vermont landscape right outside the museum’s front door. Our day will be filled with Snowshoeing, trailblazing, firemaking, animal tracking, and more! We’ll head out on snowshoe to search for wildlife sign and learn tree ID in the Grafton Town Forest. After learning the basics of firemaking and fire safety, campers will even the chance to test their skills by creating their own fire. We’ll even learn a bit of camp cooking as long as the day permits. Nature Museum educators will guide campers in a safe, fun, and respectful experience.

Whether your Wild Walker is just getting interested in the outdoors, or is an experienced outdoors person, the day holds unique opportunities for all! Campers should be sure to wear appropriate winter clothing/gear, and have extra clothing just in case! Note that we will be spending time around a campfire and clothes are subject to smoke, sparks, and ash. Campers should also bring snacks, a hearty bagged lunch, and a water bottle that can be carried by them in a backpack that is comfortable and big enough to carry several things. Campers should bring snowshoes if they have them. If your camper needs to borrow snowshoes, please indicate this on their registration and be sure to include their shoe size.

In case of hazardous weather, this program will be rescheduled for Friday, February 21, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact us directly at 802-843-2111 or email Jay at jay@nature-museum.org. Scholarships are available upon request.

During camp, we will be joined by Mary Beth Adler from Vermont Fish and Wildlife. Mary Beth will be bringing various wildlife furs and bones to learn more about native wildlife. Campers and their caregiver will get free admission to the event featuring Author Erin Rounds and Paleontologist Jeremy DeSilva that immediately follows camp.

The cost for the day is $30
