Paintings from the Forest Floor by Stephanie Sullivan

We are excited to announce a new installation of artwork by local artist Stephanie Sullivan in the museum. From her series titled Form and Flora, each acrylic on linen piece is a beautifully rendered composition of natural forms. These pieces are available for purchase, with a percentage of the proceeds going to support our outdoor expansion project and the restoration of the Chapman Meadow!

These nature-inspired paintings will be on display throughout the year as Stephanie collaborates with The Nature Museum in support of the Chapman Meadow project. In addition to a Hand Printing Leaves Workshop, on May 31st she will also be donating a portion of these artwork sales to the museum.

Artist Statement: “Combining leaf prints, brush strokes, drips and splatters, I create wonderfully messy paintings. Nature is messy. Being human is messy. Walking the trails around my home, I am continually inspired by how nature turns the clutter of life: growth, disturbance, and decay into something beautiful. I observe communities of organisms, especially the ferns, moss, lichen, and fungus. These tiny landscapes offer me perspective, perhaps even a view old enough to have been shared by the dinosaurs.

This view reconnects me to our living planet and grounds me within a moment in time and space. Like humanity, nature is a glorious tangle of successes, failures, and unknowns. All of us, always adapting, evolving, and looking for a path forward.”  - Stephanie
