“Art creates a bridge for people of all ages to connect deeply with the natural world. Creativity is an invitation - particularly for adults - for adventure, play and discovery.” – Stephanie
Join local artist Stephanie Sullivan and Environmental Educator Sam McGonigle for an afternoon of creative expression through leaf collection in the Chapman Meadow, hand printed leaf demonstration, and art making.
No experience is required, and all materials are included with registration. This program is geared towards adults, emerging young adults also welcome (14+), and aims to connect participants with the land, one another, and their creative side without the pressure of perfection.
About the Artist: After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from University of Massachusetts, Stephanie continued to develop her painting while also working in art galleries and museum exhibit preparation in Western Massachusetts. Since moving to Vermont in 2018, she uses her experience to find adaptive ways of creating opportunities for everyone to be inspired by art. Her days are filled with art making, supporting her local community, and managing habitat stewardship projects on the 54 acres of forest she calls home. As a passionate student of our regional ecosystem, Stephanie uses her creativity as a bridge towards a greater understanding and connection to our living planet.
Artist Statement: “Combining leaf prints, brush strokes, drips and splatters, I create wonderfully messy paintings. Nature is messy. Being human is messy. Walking the trails around my home, I am continually inspired by how nature turns the clutter of life: growth, disturbance, and decay into something beautiful. I observe communities of organisms, especially the ferns, moss, lichen, and fungus. These tiny landscapes offer me perspective, perhaps even a view old enough to have been shared by the dinosaurs. This view reconnects me to our living planet and grounds me within a moment in time and space. Like humanity, nature is a glorious tangle of successes, failures, and unknowns. All of us, always adapting, evolving, and looking for a path forward.” - Stephanie
