Mastering the Art of the Outdoor Fire

  • 186 Townshend Road Grafton, VT, 05146 United States (map)

Is there nothing better than a campfire under a star-lit sky? There's something magical about constructing a fire from scratch -- something primal and easy to overlook with the abundance of technology. In this modern age, humans still rely on fire for many critical tasks -- especially in the backcountry.

How can we responsibly and safely build fires for food, warmth, and the safe consumption of water? How can we reduce the impact of fire on local ecosystems? Join director Nikolas Katrick for a hands-on program for how to build low-impact fires in several different configurations with a variety of gear and materials.

We will be practicing some Leave No Trace (and beyond) ethics that you can use for future adventures into the wilderness. As a part of the program, participants will make their own tinder bundle kit.
