What stories do the older generations hold? How has their relationship with nature shifted over the decades, what was it like when they were kids? Let’s ask some questions, listen carefully, and pull the stories together into something new!
This is a three-week interview/playwriting workshop designed to digitally connect youth with their elders during this time of physical distancing. Each student will interview an older family member or friend about their childhood, with a focus on the natural world, and compare their experiences with their own.
We are especially keeping an ear out for good stories about farming life, hunting, camping, wildlife, and our connection with the land, past, present, and future. Once the interviews have been transcribed, we will choose favorite excerpts, put them into a play-like sequence, and finish up with a reading of the material.
Ideal for teens, this online workshop is lead by professional writer and equity actor John Hadden who will virtually meet with the students three times a week to generate a list of interview questions and to coach the interview process. The process begins May 11th, and a schedule will be worked out with the participants. The cost is $175 for the three-week series.
