11AM: Amphibians on the Move
Spring is a busy time for frogs, toads, and salamanders here in New England! As these amphibian friends wake up from their long winter rest, many begin their journeys to special pools in hopes of starting a family. Learn about “big nights”, vernal pools, and the awesome amphibians that make a special spring journey. Come discover more about these amphibians, listen to a “big night” story, and create your own amphibian craft! Afterwards, delve into the museum and head outside to explore! Grab a trail map, try out an exploration kit, or go on a scavenger hunt!
Our museum’s is open every Thursday and Friday from 10am-4pm, but during this vacation week we will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday as well during those same hours. Each day at 11am our environmental educators will lead a special all ages program. You might catch “Eagles, Hawks, a–Predators of the Sky" or “The Recipes for Thunderstorms" or another fun, hands-on program.
During your exploration of the museum, crawl through an underground bear den; dig for fossils; find out about bats, bees, and catamounts; and learn about animal adaptations by dressing up as your favorite creature. Discover our curated collection of hands-on exhibits. Afterwards, head outside and take a walk in the woods behind the museum or on one of three Village Park trails. There are plenty of opportunities to connect with nature and learn something new.
This program is free and admission to the museum is by your donation.
The week will culminate in a special Earth Day Party at 11am on Saturday. Come and celebrate with us!
