Wild Walkers: Ancient Fire Skills

Date: Tuesday, February 17th, 2015 9:30AM -3:30PM
Ages: Geared to 10-14 year olds
Cost: $30 per student/ Registration after February 3 will be $35.

The Nature Museum is thrilled to announce the fourth gathering of Wild Walkers, a partnership program with the Vermont Wilderness School for kids ages 10 to 14. Be trained in ancient fire making skills in the woods and fields around The Nature Museum. Develop self-sufficiency, emergency preparedness, ecological awareness, and hazard avoidance in the wild. Learn about gathering wood and finding tinder bundle material, as well as the correct mix of fuel, air, spark, and safe containment for starting a fire. Once a fire is going, take on optional challenges of boiling water to make tea from locally gathered trees, boiling an egg, or, depending on snow conditions, we may also experiment with the survival skill of melting snow for cooking and drinking in winter. Experienced instructors from The Nature Museum and Vermont Wilderness School will guide kids in a safe, fun, respectful experience of living close to the earth. Please send your child fully prepared for a range of February weather.
